Re: Ryan’s 1981 Blue Storm – NRB
Just read this thread begining to end, awesome way to close a Friday night after a hard graft at work with a bottle of red on the go!
Fantastic car with great history, ok so you got other people to do the work but the choices you made are the right ones
Would love to see it for real some time

Re: Ryan’s 1981 Blue Storm – NRB - FOR SALE
Shame you are selling this! Looks amazing.
Great tread read first thing on a Monday with a coffee! It has also given me some motivation to have my Scirocco sorted.
GLWS.

Passed MoT, once the emissions had calmed down (not been on the rd since November last year, so little wonder it was a bit high) and a quick tweak of the headlight alignment ;) .
Soon cleared up though - advisory on the O/S rear wheel bearing and a few signs of the dreaded rust around the rear axel points - more of a thing to note than any danger says the man...but something to get sorted promptly I feel.
Also noted that I could do with buying new exhaust rubbers all round...the supersprint seems to be a bit

Re: Ryan’s 1981 Blue Storm - NRB
After sitting in the garage all winter and being molested by a local feline, then having a load of bonfire ash deposited on it a few weekends ago the Storm was looking pretty sorry for itself.

So to remove the ash and cat prints I gave the car a good clean and even had the polish out on Saturday, nothing else has changed except for finally getting the Wolfsburg horn-push sorted out - looks much better than the multicoloured Momo one....
Before ...

After...

Had a bit of a flyer on the way to Stanford Hall due to being disorganised and late - haven't driven the car like that in a long while
Got a thumbs up from a bloke in a TT on the M6 - then had an interesting moment avoiding a huge piece of plastic trim that was spread over two lanes
Great to catch up and have a natter with so many people at the show - and seeing Bob was great - Oxford edition 2007 - can't believe it had been that long!
Passed the 77, 777 miles mark on a much more sedate drive back from Stanford Hall - although I missed the moment as I was in a lovely traffic jam getting out and forgot to (pull over and) take a piccy...

Booked in for the wheel bearing at the end of the month.

Got the wheel bearing sorted yesterday, along with an oil and filter change.
Also tracked down some new exhaust rubbers.
2 heavy duty ones from GSF and two even heavier duty ones (with the chains in) from C&R
.
Small problem with the boot latch shutting now as it has worked its way loose...what a pain it is to get sitting correctly

Re: Ryan’s 1981 Blue Storm - NRB
The end (well for me at least).
The car is now in the possesion of mr.brown (sort of).
I had an enjoyable last drive down to Reading to deliver it (despite the terrible weather nearly all the way down there).
Didn't miss a beat, and the wiper relay was worth it's weight in gold (wish the passat had something so simple!)
Instant grin factor when overtaking some huge volvo luxo barge before hitting the A-roads
Matthew was really upset when the kids waved me off - no more noisey car.
These seem appropriate pics to finish on...it's where it spent most of it's time after all!

nice clean up there, Fresh paint always does the buisness, what did you do with the scuttle area where the wings meet. one of them looked a little rusty. Sweet colour.

I love this car being sat on my drive...
Nice to see all the work that has gone into it over the years that it has been away from us.
I will being going out for a blat in a bit.. Over to Chris Uttley's house in TW4 to see him and let him have a drive of his old car.
Great thread for me to keep looking back on to see what has been done to her.

Hi Ryan,Ryan wrote:February 2009 - Classics are on - BBS are gone![]()
Turned out the ATS's need spacing by about 5mm on the front because they won’t clear the calipers (256mm)![]()
This is something I wasn't expecting - so much so that I didn't test fit the wheels before I had them refurbed![]()
The garage fitted x2 3mm spacers on each wheel, and they've got just over 1mm clearance to the caliper, so at least I could get it back home.
I've now bought some FK 6mm spacers as I wanted to have as few things between the wheel and the hub as I could.
Not got the longer bolts sorted out yet - I'm hoping to have a look at these tonight to make sure I get the correct length.
Good news is I like the look of the wheels – (thank f@ck!)
When you had the paint work done on NRB what was the paint code you went with? As you say it lookes two tone in the pic.
I am going to be putting the old lock/wiper and badged tailgate back on and was thinking that it will need to be sprayed to match the newer paint on the car. Or has it already been done to the lighter colour and then you had the smoothed one done in the same colour.
Any advice on this would be most helpful.
Cheers
Neil.

Hi Neil,
I honestly can't remember - looking at the pics, I'd say it was re-painted when I took it to Danny Allen (waste of money tbh), as it seems to match the rest of the rear... But I didn't think it had been. The colour it is now is much more a match for the colour when I first had it. Both times I supplied the original paint code - But clearly Danny didn't get it even close!
Once you fit it, you'll soon tell whether he had a go at it...if it matches the rest of the car, we'll presume he didn't...
