Hi all,
Would some people be kind enough to help me out here...
Still not sure if my engine has sustained any serious damage re:oil pressure.
Could people with Oil pressure gauges, post some examples of their oil pressure readings.
At Idle, and at 2000 rpm, and 3000 rpm. When cold, and after a 15/20 minute trip up to full temp.
Would be much appreciated, really losing faith in this car.
Cheers.
Chris

Re: Oil pressure readings
oil pressure readings when cold won't really mean anything, as the oil is much thicker. once the engine is warmed up, you should be seeing a minimum of around 2 bar at 2k rpm

Re: Oil pressure readings
Sorry to have to bring it up again...
Been driving the car very nervously the last couple of weeks, and monitoring oil pressure still.
Today when hot after a 20minute drive and sat in traffic, dropped to around 30-31psi when hot at 2k rpm (around 7-8psi idle!)
A couple of questions if thats ok:
-Anybody who's very generous and lives near me happen to have a mechanical oil pressure gauge I could borrow for a bit, just to rule out the cheap electrical one being faulty?
-How much do you recon it would cost to get someone to replace the main and rod bearings, and is it worth it after all the trouble i've had recently?
GTXtra mentioned the Phirm replaced his rod / big end bearings recently.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Oil pressure readings
Dont give up......buy a mechanical guage.will only be £25 ish.As long as the oil presure light isnt flickering or coming on then its fine...When my engine was hot the oil pressure was almost non existant at idol but the light stayed off and i had no problems.
Re major engine surgery, I would seriously doubt there is any mechanical damage to repair, unless you can here the mains or bigs then discart this thought from your mind.

Re: Oil pressure readings
Good call on the filter - I used to own a Firenza, and the Halfords brand filters resulted in no oil pressure. Vauxhall own brand ones were fine.
