MK2 Rear wiper function

Post by KB88 »

I don’t use the forum an awful lot so I wasn’t sure if this had been mentioned and couldn’t find a post explaining this.

As some of you will know the MK2 (and possibly other models) have an issue with the rear wiper, where by the function stays on until either the car is turned off or you remove a fuse (i imagine).
I found out a few months back that i can stop the function carrying on by double tapping the wiper stalk.
The timing seems to be the key although I’m not sure exactly how I’m doing it. I simply click once for it to work, and then i tap the stalk again, as it performs the function. You should find that the wiper won’t go again. Sometimes i have to make a couple of attempts but it works!

Apologise if this news is as old as the hills.

On mine if I press it once will turn on intermittently and then if I click it again it turns off.

I also find that the stalks are a little flimsy and not very responsive so I just give it a click right at the base by the steering column and there I can feel whether it has clicked or not..

Not sure if that is how everyone else works? :dunno:

A simple case of RTFM :read: . Although I appreciate that many Sciroccos no longer have their handbooks :?:

To be fair, I think there might be a difference between the wiper function in older and later Sciroccos (although I'll have to check). Either that, or whether or not it continues to function is related to how long you hold the stalk down in the first place (i.e. whether you simply press it to turn the wiper on, or hold it to operate the washer for a few seconds). Either way, a quick press is what's needed to turn it off again.

On my Scala if you do a single wipe you need to do another single wipe to cancel. If you do the wash and wipe it self cancels.
