Fuel Additives.... worth it or not?

Post by mikey360 »

After looking around halfords for some spark plugs, oil etc, I came across a fuel additive for £15 which cleaned the valves, fuel injectors and lots more! (apparently)

Do fuel additives actually clean anything?? I wanted to get my injectors cleaned but will a £15 bottle of magic juice do a similar job??

Halfords for oil????

Halfords are more expensive than even the dealers for oil and oil filter, and it never pays to fit a non genuine VW oil filter! I paid £18 for 5 litres of VW Synta oil and £2.80 for the filter from VW. Things like spark plugs can be bought for about £1.80 each for Bosch from Euro Car Parts or GSF.

to be fair to halfords, if you can blag a trade card from them, their parts and tool proces are actually quite keen

Yeah, I would have thought GSF would be expensive because of their "specialised" products, even though they didn't have the correct clutch cable for my scirocco, which was a bit of a bugger!

If you become a paid up member of the Register you will all get a discount from GSF as well. I like Euro Car Parts as well and it is easy to play one off against the other as they want your business. To be honest though I think that if you get in with your local VW dealer and build a bit of a rapport with the parts department it is worth asking for a discount.
I have made a few contacts in the last 27 years of VW/Audi ownership with dealers/ECP and GSF in quite a few places around the UK and found them all pretty enthusiastic about the marque and helpful.
I do have access to a Halfords trade card but even with the discount still think they are expensive.

my main complaint with the trade card is that they won't tell you the discount level, so you've got to speak to a gimp to get a price for everything
