Clutch Cable to Pedal Problem

Post by mikey360 »

Sup guys

After collecting my First Scirocco today, the cable snapped on the way home! :ire:
On further inspection, it wasn't the actual cable that snapped, but the plastic "hook" that hooks onto the clutch pedal itself.

The clutch cable was only replaced a few hundred miles ago along with a new clutch by the previous owner

Seeing as the majority of Scirocco clutches are a bit stiff, I was wondering if there was a company which sell cables with metal hooks rather than plastic hooks on the clutch cables?

I'm planning on reinforcing the bulk head tomorrow with a nice big, thick, plate of steel just to make the clutch a bit smother, as well as buttering up the clutch cable like a Christmas turkey, but im just a tad worried this won't be enough to take all the strain off the plastic hook.

Sorry if this is a stupid question :newbie:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The clutch shouldn't be stiff mate if it is adjusted correctly, take a look in a Haynes manual.
A new clutch cable will cost about £15, before you install pour some thin oil down it.

Was this the GTX from Essex.

I've never had a clutch cable go there and I've replaced a lot.

More often the sheath inside the metal tube at the bulkhead goes, or the wire itself snaps.

I've had three cables that pulled straight through the bulkhead and the plastic bit was fine.

A strengthening plate sounds like your best bet as my clutch always got stiff just before the bulkhead collapsed.

It was from near Essex yes

And just checked the cable over again, it was never greased!

Cheers for the advice guys, hopefully a new greased up cable and a reinforced bulkhead should solve it
