i've bee ndreaming again (a VERY bad thing to be doing!) about my race car.



i've also been looking at pretty pics of Golf Rallyes (an EXTREAMLY bad thign to be doing!).




I've always said I either want to build a Durocco, or a 4WD rocco.




so I may have put up a statment on ED38 that I sort of might be after sometime in the distance future, the running gear out of a smashed ralye.



...no more than a month later someguy from London has contacted me with the offer of the rallye running gear ofr £500 and the engine (G60) with all ancilleries, and wiring for £1000








ummmmmmmmmm i shouldn't should I?

Probably not what you want to hear, but...go for it.

Not sure on valuation, maybe someone else can advise, but I guess it is rare.

Might want to consider asking if the floorpan is available, maybe easier to transplant than cut and weld the Scirocco.

Been speaking to a friend at work whos making a race spec Mk2 goof.




..the 16v/v ers (what I already have to put in) are faster than the G60s and the Rallyes as the rear diff is so heavy


..but it would still be somthing different wouldn't it!

I read a feature in one of the VW monthlies years ago about a bloke building a MK1 Golf Cabrio 4 wheel drive using a Cosworth engine and running gear.
So I suppose anything is possible if you have the time and money (and the balls!) to go for it!!!

I was assuming that it wouldn't be stock.

The 4WD would let you put more power on the road assuming you increase the BHP. It gets rid of a lot of the nasty front wheel drive issues when you have too much power.

I know that you are aware of this, it was just something to bear in mind when looking at the 'more BHP in a 16v' argument made by the Ed38 chap.

If you have to start cutting the monocoque to fit the syncro bits you realise you will probably have to put the car through a BIVA test when it's finished?

At Inters back in June, there was a MK1 Scirocco with a 1.8T engine and 4WD, it got the quickest time on the Sunday and overall. Someone on here may know the owner, maybe worth trying to speak with him.

Hi mate was it the rockets scirocco??, if so he's from near me in blackburn, top bloke, did all the 4 wheel drive himself its 600+bhp!!! its modified haldex system i think but not 100% just know he's shit hot lol, he works/manages at a garage called rockets repair center blackburn
