Just popped into halfords (Trade card, never pay full price) and decided that my mk2 needed some tlc.
I bought and air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, brake shoes (rear), brake pages (full), and 5l of engine oil. Came to just under £40 for the lot. I there anything else that needs changing whilst my bank account is in the black?
It would be a good idea to point out that this car has been sitting in the garage for the past few years and has recieved no attention whilst it was in there. Please dont go thinking...
"oh everybody knows about that old problem" because I can garentee that it hasn't been done (save putting petrol in it).
Any advice is good advice (unless its like "BURN IT!!!" or something)
Cheers
Niall

Change the cam belt and tensioner if it hasnt been done recently.
Don't ask me....it was like that when i got here !

Re: Advice on maintenence
Distributor cap and rotor arm.
Check coolant at correct percentage level.
Change brake fluid.
You might want to consider changing the rear brake cylinders, once you have got the drums off. Be a shame to have the cylinders go shortly after changing the brake shoes.

Id just add Ignition Leads and Alternator Belt to the above mate
Maybe check the condition of the throttle and clutch cables too.

Re: Advice on maintenence
if it's been sat a long time it may be worth taking the brake callipers off and pushing the piston in and out a few times to check they are moving freely
