So what do people usually go for?
So what do people usually go for?
Alright, ive got a mk2 1986 gt rocco, just wondering what people have gone for under the bonnet to get that bit more fun out of it.
Be it full conversion or 4 branch etc. Just like to get into, the kinds of things that people do to thier rocco's, for a bit of inspiration and to make it a bit more fun.
Cheers,
Liam.

Varies really.
On my Mk2 Storm, I have stuck to the already nippy DX engine. Gave it a Powerflow exhaust system (just 1 silencer, hmmmm, roooooar
), Supersprint 4-2-1 manifold, Pipercross panel filter, slightly ported head, and that led to 120 bhp on Stealth´s rollers.
But there are also peeps that will happily drop in a 20V turbo jobbie.

Yeah as im new to the rocco end of the vag scale, just wanted to know what goes on and whats good, cheap ish and can feel gains.
i know all the polo side like the 1.4 16v g40's etc. Im guessing golf engines are a fit into rocco's, like the 2l 16v etc.

Re: So what do people usually go for?
could be worth you going down a 2ltr 8v route fella. Chuck on the bottom end to your head, bolt on a weber with a manifold and system, will be a good cheapish
gain, with a nice torque curve..
Most people go for the 16v route, as you have a carb model check out rusty dans build thread good source of info..
Yes the golf engines fit some need off the shelf mounts ie 20vt

Re: So what do people usually go for?
For a daily driver my personal chioce would be either a Mk3 Golf 2L 8v using the Mk3's injection setup, or a TDi conversion (£££'s) for even more economical poke.
If it's just a sunny weekend car (like mine lol) a 2L 16v on twin webers/dellortos or bike carbs
The 16v into a GT is a pretty straight forward conversion if using carbs and ditching the k-jet...

Re: So what do people usually go for?
I'm thinking 1.9TDI at the minute. Same 90bhp as te original engine, but more torque and economy.

Re: So what do people usually go for?
There's quite a bit of info here & there on doing the TDi conversion, mainly in Mk1 Golf's & Caddy's, but with the Rocco sharing mostly the same bay and wiring arrangement it should all be pretty useful.
I'd be tempted to try and use the "pre PD" (passat 3b etc) 110bhp TDi, as these can produce really good power and oodles of torque with a revo remap. They retain their economy when remapped too
The earlier more primative TD engines (mk3 golf/caddy van) are really flat in comparison, and alot more agricultural lol...

Re: So what do people usually go for?
Would it be possible to put a turbo on a 1.6 from a mk2 golf or similar?
Engine would need rebuilt of course, but would it need megasquirt/megajolt ?
I haven't been able to find much info on people fitting turbos, they just seem to do engine swaps

I love my AFN in the Passat (110), but would swap it tomorrow for the PD150 in the Borasnathe wrote:I'd be tempted to try and use the "pre PD" (passat 3b etc) 110bhp TDi, as these can produce really good power and oodles of torque with a revo remap. They retain their economy when remapped too![]()
