Mk2 Golf GTI Backbox

Post by dezshearer »

The mark2 golf gti backbox has a lovely chrome twin pipe, and they're £50 quid new.

I know they won't fit straight on to my '88 1.6 GT but would i be right in thinking that it could be made to fit? ... they're a similar shape arn't they? A bit of cutting and welding would do wonders? Or should i not waste my time and money?

it will fit but you will have to make it,lots of cutting and repositioning hangers and the pipe work may or will need extending..my advice dont bother fit 1 thats meant for the car.

If it is not broken, Do not fix it !!!

Cheers, if i could get my hands on an old scrap one, it might be easier to decide. I'm not worried about the cutting/welding really, and have an old jetta system lying about if i need more pipe.

The hangers are the same, but the pipework will definately need tweeking.

Its not that difficult TBH. I've got a mk2 gti exhaust from the downpipe back and it only really needed a short extension and a reducer adding between the centre box and downpipe and a hanger welding on the backbox. Fits good, no leaks or rubbing etc.

Fits well, bit of cutting and welding needed. Cheaper than a jetex tho.
