door weight and size/ light weight doors?

Post by Funollie »

hey guys,

I'm having a door couriered but need to know the size and weight with no glass/with glass?

Anyone know?

Also wondered as theres a lot of talk of lightened bonnets, is it worth chopping the internals out of a door and using a riveted perspec window?

discuss

depends if its for a track day car.
i imagine a decent bit of weight could be saved by stripping out both doors and using perspex.
but
perspex windows arent that good at keeping heat in and also flex more. there also quieter to break as a good boot will just push the whole sheet inwards allowing access to ur motor without a smash.

track day car, yes
daily car imo, no

i have seen track cars with perspex windows and all the metal trimmed back to about an inch from the edge on the inside of the door its good for the track but deafening driving to work
depends how serious you want to get and how often you use the car
if you have allready removed the carpet, rear seats, headlining, sound deadening, stereo, speakers, rear sidetrays, doorcards plastic trims and anything else you can consider a creature comfort then it is the next logical step
there is a lot of stuff you can remove from your car that you dont need and the best thing is its free bhp/per ton
julian has totaly stripped his valver matt has ripped quite a lot of stuff out of his and mine is standard interior would be interesting to get them all weighed and see how much weight they have saved compared to my standard car
will try to arrange it soon
