Happiness

Post by 1lazza »

Just back from the bodyshop...Now all I have to do is find/clean/paint and polish all the parts to complete, which have been stored for about 10 years. Fortunately I've managed to buy NOS/good used parts to replace those lost in last years' shed fire.

Nice colour.

What are you final plans for the car?

Plans? - I will use it as a 'toy' when finished. Hopefully all up and running by Christmas. :chill:

Although a GLS, it will have a beige/cream Storm leather interior, Ronal R8's and electric steel sunroof. Engine is standard, but gas flowed, with tubular exhaust manifold. Adjustable Koni's underneath. Can't decide whether to fit the Storm front spoiler or the standard duckbill - I'll probably try that one first as I haven't seen it that way for about25 years! (It was my second car, acquired in '83 preceded by a Renault 5- ah, the memories...)

Yes, L96F03. As original.

No pics yet, but it was a Hollandia TVS tilt/slide fitted at the last restoration to replace the naff 80's glass item which had perished seals. The cassette was a tight fit, but the result looks really neat. You do lose a couple of centimetres headroom though, and I had to get a new headliner made!

I had a Golf GLi in that colour, it's great and really fashionable on the show scene at the moment.

Looking great, worth the wait I'm sure.

Since you have a Storm as well, I'd go for the variety of the standard look (and I think I prefer it anyway!).

Slow progress, just want to make sure all the bits to go back on are as good as possible.

Hello,

I would be very interested in how you re-chromed the 'Scirocco GLS' badge?

I've had a few attempts now with my Storm badge with self adhesive Aluminium tape trimmed with a scalpel but I'm sure it does not look as good as your job..... :hi:

I used chrome vinyl foil from 'Viper stripes' on Ebay. You need to keep changing the blade as the vinyl takes the edge off very quickly. And lots of patience. That badge was relatively easy, the 'Volkswagen' one was much more fiddly. (I bought a NOS one in the end...)

The same stuff worked an absolute treat on the tail lamps, rear plate panel and front grille. Just like new now.

I just polished my indicators and tail lamp lenses with Autosol (after a bloody good clean) - highly recommended. Takes all of the scratches out and they look good as new too. :buddy:

Should be ready by Easter at the rate I'm going, but I'll have a great toy for next Summer!
