Strange bleeder nipple.

Post by Mailo »

So I have discovered some strange "mods" after the previous owner of my car, but this tops everything.
The other day I changed the brake disk/pads and whent ahead with the bleeding. right side whent ok but the nipple on the left was broken off..or so i thought.
Got an extractor sett and quickly realised that something was wrong:
No Nipple at all. allan bolt! Called my vw dealer and he can only get minimum 7mm bleeder nipples, not 5mm like this. Where do I get 5mm bleeder nipples from, and what kind of caliper is on my car?

Hello Mailo,

It looks like a normal caliper to me.

I think that the previous owner broke of the bleeder nipple and could not get it out and then decided to fix it an other way.

I think he drilled the broken off bleeder out a bit and made an M5 thread into it.

This hole he had then closed uo by the bolt you show in the picture.

Look again and you might see it now.

Succes, Joost

I had trouble getting bleed nipples, think i got mine from http://www.vwheritage.com.......I am sure it was from them as I originally got 7mm ones that were too big....

That is not safe :shocking:

That's pretty scary. I'd be having a good look over the rest of the car, to check he hasn't replaced bolts with chewing gum, or held the ball joints in with clothes pegs.

as above. you'll either need to get the broken bit removed or just replace the caliper.

The calipers on my GTI had 5mm bleed nipples on them, very easy to snap. Just change the caliper, easier.

cheers
