Post by Whitescala89 »

Thinking about wiring up a fuel pump cut off switch so if someone tries to skank it,it wont start. Whats involved? Is it easy or would someone on here fancy doing it?

assuming you have an injection, it's easy. trace the wires to the pump. identify which is the positive. cut this wire and extend the 2 ends to a switch.

if you have a carb, do the same thing with the +ve to the coil

It is injection. Didnt realise it was this easy. Question though,Does the pump keep running if the switch is left on after the car has stopped running or does it switch on and off with the ignition?

To save messing about with wiring, why don't you just pull the fuel pump relay out and stick it in your pocket when you leave the car.

That would work... but would it not cause an issue doing that in the long run? ie wearing out the contacts in the relay socket?

I'd go with the switch, but be aware. Thieves are pretty clever noodles and can find hidden switches unless you stick it somewhere completely unobvious, like in the boot under the speaker shelf. Just means you'll have to get into the habit of putting something in your boot everytime you go to your car so it don't look obvious. I suggest a brolly, lol.

There are of course other options... like an immobiliser. They aren't too difficult to wire in if you're handy with a soldering iron.

You could also go to the other extreme of installing an UHF RFID tag reader with the fob in your wallet (my inner geek has arrived) :hehe:

And if you dont have a wallet - you could implant the chip/fob in yourself... Mission impossible security levels now. :vcool:

You'd need it inserting in your butt cheek if you plant the receiver in your seat :hehe:

on one of my astras, i had a 6.3mm jack socket in the bottom of the arm rest that was in the poitive feed to the coil. i had a mono plug that just had the 2 contacts joined together. worked like a switch (pull the plug out and it kills the spark) but looked like a nut
