Breather pipe

Post by Whitescala89 »

Found out the hissing in my engine was a small breather pipe next to the fuel mixture adjustment on the inlet manifold (DX engine). Question is where is the rest of the pipe and where does it go to? Have blocked it temporarily.

ou got a picture mate? There are a couple of pips around there. If it is the one on the back of the manifold about 5mm then it is the MFA one.

Small vacuum tube from the distributor goes to the back of the inlet manifold.

One of the small vacuum tubes coming off the valve in the front middle of the inlet manifold (the white tube) goes to the MFA, the other yellow pipe (if your car has it fitted) goes to the vacuum unit on the front corner of the airbox.

Its actually on the throttle body and has a pipe that goes from right next to it round to something on the distributor.

Yeah the breather goes onto one of them. I just want to know where the breather goes so i can unblock it.

Not quite sure what you mean. That small tube on the throttle body (Picture 3 above) is connected to the vacuum advance unit on the distributor.

Differing airflow through the throttle body creates variable pressure that operates the vacuum unit.

If you think the tube on the throttle body is blocked, then squirt some carb cleaner into it.

Finally make sure that the vacuum tube between throttle body and vacuum unit has no splits or tears in it.

Received the pictures mate. It is the vacumn pipe that goes from the distributor, these pipes can be bought from the dealers for pennies, worth putting a new one on to be sure of how good it is, in fact it is worth changing them all for what they cost, the older they get they tend to split and crack up.
As Pete says about splits!
