Ideal CO level?
HI all, just wondered what the ideal CO level is on a pierburg?
Its a 2e2 on a 1.8 scala.
Anyone have any ideas? or even a range it should be within?

Re: Ideal CO level?
so after some more trawling of the internet found a recommendation for 1% plus or minus 0.5%. Does that sound about right?

HC 261 ppm - Max limit 1200
Not sure what that all means but i hope it's of some help.
His car's a 1.6gti (injection)Junglist wrote:Your hydrocarbons are about the same as mine, your CO is about double what mine was. Interesting to know. Mine's a carb 1.8
My MOT guy said mine would almost pass an emissions test for a catalytic converter car.
Hope that's of some use to you. Oh, mine's on a Weber. I've probably just confused things even more haven't I?

That has literally mad things so much more confusing!!
Basically.. get it reasonably low.. think shes running pretty rich atm so just want to lean it off a bit.

Re: Ideal CO level?
these are the maximum limits for a car of this age to pass the emission part of the mot test. newer cars have stricter limits.mot limits wrote:
CO% Volume - Max Limit 4.50
HC ppm - Max limit 1200
the guideline setting for your particular engine is 1.0% CO at tickover +/- 0.5%
tickover should be 750rpm +/-50

Re: Ideal CO level?
Thought tickover should be 950. Of all the sciroccos I've had, 750rpm would be an uncomfortably low idle speed. Spluttery and stall-happy.

Re: Ideal CO level?
What's your idle speed? I reckon if I'd dialled mine down on the carb before the MOT, I'd have had a much lower reading, maybe it would have been more like 1% rather than the 2.2% I got.

Re: Ideal CO level?
Mine ticks over at about 1100 atm, i adjusted it a while back the idle was set at about 2000 to compensate for others issues with the carb. Having resolved (some) of them now its a bit lower but still a tad spluttery etc. Shall be setting to with the CO tester on monday.
The idle adjust is the 13mm bolt on the back of the 3 point unit isnt it? May well lower it a tad before i check this then.

Re: Ideal CO level?
Just checked my VAG workshop manual, ide speed should be 1100 rpm with the engine temp less that 40 degrees and 950 rpm over 40 degrees, this is plus/minus 50rpm.

Re: Ideal CO level?
So popped mine on the tester... 9% :O
Its back down to around 2% now, but the timing needs sorting and adjusting before i try and sort it out properly. She hardly ever does the annoying 'foot down and stall then start moving' thing anymore which is nice :)
