Fast idling EX engine

Post by philiano »

Hi all
I'm having a bit of trouble with my wife's car. It's got the EX carb engine, with a Pierburg carb. She doesn't want to swap to a Weber if she doesn't have to.
When cold, it's idling fast (over 2000 rpm), and over-runs when switched off after a short journey. The choke comes off as it should, and the rpm drops to 800ish, but the car is a bit 'lumpy'.
I was told that it maybe the coolant temperature sender at fault, as I've changed the waxstat and sprayed around the carb to check for holes/breaks. There seems to be a lot of oil or fuel in the air filter, but I'm unsure if this is a factor.

Does anyone have a photo of where the coolant temperature sender is, as I'm having trouble locating it.

Thanx

when my pooburg did something like this it turned out to be one of the vacuum pipes goin to the idle over run valve on the back of the carb hadnt been fitted correctly and had a screw in it to prevent loss of vacuum. anutha cause of this can be the wires going to the left hand side of the carb. when you pull them out at cold idle it sends the revs high, then when warmed up subsequently brings it down to a pitying idle. hence why i changed the carb to a weber so there would be a lot less trouble with it.( a lot less things to go wrong + cheap and easy to fix, due to plentifull parts unlike the pooburg)

I dont mind project cars but I HATE SANDING!!!
