256mm brake question?

Post by GT Matt »

Need someone with experience of this please.......

I have some 256mm calipers/carriers/hubs/discs from a Mk2 Golf 16v.

Didn't really want to use the hubs (from reading other posts, not sure if their geometry is suitable) but wondered whether the caliper carriers would bolt directly onto the rocco hub?

I've read the FAQ guide to brakes and it mentions Audi hubs but nothing about the Golf ones?

Anyone able to help?

Matt

I think you will find that the carrier mounting holes are further apart on the Mark 2 golf than those on the Scirocco. You need carriers with a dimension between the mounting hole centres of approx 76mm, I think.

Yep - caliper carriers off said Audi will do the job with no bodging :good:

You just have to find some though...

I think i have this problem now. Bought some 16v calipers and carriers and the carrier holes are nowhere near the right distance for the rocco hubs (carrier holes too far apart)...

What options do i have to solve this?
The carriers i have from the roc wont fit the calipers.
Will audi 80 carriers fit the 16v calipers? Or will i need to change hubs?
Are different hubs an option, or am i opening myself up to further grief with driveshafts and suspension geometry? :dunno:

Thanks in advance guys!

Chibby.

Yep - if they're the ones listed in the FAQ.

"Audi 80 quattro (83 to 85)
Audi 90 5-cylinder (85 to 87)
Audi Coupe 5-cylinder (85 to 88)"

Damnation. The ones i found on ebay are obviously wrong then, approx 95mm apparently...

Where would be a good source for finding these carriers?
