Brake seals

Had the lovely experience of my brake pedal hitting the floor last night, sounds like its popped a seal somewere as I can hear the air escaping. Any ideas were is best to start looking, is somewhere common for them to go on the Mk2?

That doesn't sound common. You won't be able to hear air escaping though! If you can hear air then the pedal should be rock hard, but the brakes still work just as before - you just need to press the pedal a LOT harder.

If a calliper or slave cylinder seal has gone there'll be fluid everywhere which will be a give away, same if a line has gone. The only other thing it could be is the master cylinder, but one front and it's diagonal partner will still be working.

on the underside of the car. look for a puddle of brake fluid at one of the wheels. this should give you a pointer.

No signs of brake fluid on any of the wheels, haven't had a proper look to be fair. Pedal travels the whole way to floor with no pressure at all.

Sounds more like broken linkage if there's no resistance. You'll need to open the bonnet!

Though I had solved the problem, massive spilt in the vac pipe from the master cylinder to the manifold, replaced that today. Can't hear the air escaping from there anymore, still no resitance on the pedal thou as soon as I turn the engine on. No brake fluid leaks that are visable. At a bit of a lose...

Have you changed the fluid in your brakes and rebled them yet?

Might be the two things are unrelated.

Turns out the n/s flexi was spilt, changed it (£5) brake fluid and the copper pipe, just need to get the blasted bleed screw from the caliper to bleed them proper and then she'll have brakes again! Also sporting new discs and pads while I was there
