The scala has only be doing wee short runs since i bought a GTi at begininng December. I threw some fuel in on saturday and took a race about 20miles up the motorway at 70mph, probably the quickest it's been driven in last lot of months! As I went onto slip road noticed power dying a bit and when i turned off it was struggling a bit, and then once I switched engine off wouldn't start. I'd a spare fuelrelay so swapped that just incase but when i tried start I could hear fuel pump in front. I left it sitting for a a minute or two and when i went to start again it fired and stalled, so I left it for 20-30mins came back and it started and drove home like there was nothing wrong with it 70mph all the way!!!
Could it have been a bit of crap in tank or just cos first decent run in a while, or does it sound like fuel pump on way out??

Re: Fuel problem on scala i
I would go with a fuel filter swap and also clean out the fuel lift pump 'in tank' as there is a little filter on the end there. Swap even for £26!
Also there is a small filter inside the banjo bolt on the 'fuel in' line on the metering head that can get clogged.
Worth checking your injectors are giving good spray/delivery
Certianly sounds fuel related... in case of air leaks, spray a bit of brake cleaner around your air pipe connections to see if the car picks up on idle.
Just from experience I would check these things..
Hope it helps.

Re: Fuel problem on scala i
Cheers dude, big help : ), fuel filter has only a few thousand miles on it and I'm told they are good for at least 20k so I'll rule that out.
You reckon more like a blockage and the pump sounds ok?

You say your fuel filter has only a few thousand under it's belt but if your tank or fuel lines have rust then it could still be blocked, worth changing as the man said.
