16v - Join the dots anyone? Please help!

Post by jbo »

Hi all,

I have finally got my 16v back form the garage with everything done bar the wirign on the head! I have had a go at it myself but im pretty sure i've got connectors and all sorts in the wrong places. I have been searching online for hours and hours and hours and am yet to find an image or guide explaining which wire connector goes where in a simple laid out format. If someone can help then I will make one!

Below is a pic I found from a forum. It mentions digifant but this can be ignored. I just need to know what goes where. For example-

#4 - Two Pin Connector - Yellow/Blue Wire & Green Wire
#3 - Single Spade - Blue/White Wire

If someone can check there own wiring asap it would be hugely hugely appreciated. Im still waiting on a connector for the dizzy which is also listed on the "parts wanted" section. Please please please help someone! :dash:

Ok here is what I have come up with so far from a bit more searching -

#1 - Single Spade Connector - Blue Wire
#2 - Single Spade Connector - Yellow Wire
#3 - Single Spade Connector - Blue/White Wire
#4 - Two Pin Connector - Green/White & Red/Black Wires
#5 - Single Spade Connector - ???
#6 - Single Spade Connector - ???
#7 - Not Present
#8 - Single Spade Connector - ???

So it's only #5, 6 and 8 I am after. Once I have these i will be sorted.

Not the same diagram, You posted this pic up a while back Jbo, my golf 16v KR engine doesnt quite look the same as your picture because i'm using a 16v coolant flange.

Image

Cold start valve = black/green & white/blue with BLUE CLIP
Coolant Temp sensor = red/green SPADE (my sensor is a spade one, unlike your 2 pin clip)
Warm Up Reg = brown & white/red WHITE CLIP
Oil Pressure senders 1 = yellow SPADE
Oil Pressure senders 2 = blue SPADE
Sensor at the back of head (top right above the oil temp sendor lable) = black/green SPADE
Oil Temp Sensor (to the left of the lable) = blue/white SPADE
Thermotime Switch (to the left of the lable) = green/white & red/black BROWN CLIP
What looks like a sensor above the thermotime switch lable = This is actually a bolt hole which holds a steel water pipe in place, this water pipe feeds the heater matrix
ECU Temp sensor = yellow/red SPADE

I know its not exactly the same as your engine but hopefully it will help.

Well......

Your wire colours were spot on identical to mine so I know that's not the problem but its still wont start. It fires for about a half second then dies. I pulled out one of the injectors while turning it over and nothign happened. I've checked the main and lift pumps with no luck. It's so close now I just put it back in the garage this morning so hopefully they can work it out.

It was fun even being towed in the car ha lol.

Which 16v engine is it, and what management are you running it on? A bit more info would help.

If it's an ABF on digifant (as your diagram implied) then what's the part number on the ECU?
