Got a problem with my conversion.
The car will now move but any throttle being applied will cause the car to splutter and hesitate under load.
The car seems to be quite rich on idle could it be there is not enough fuel/air getting through to the higher rev range?
Any help appreciated, round 2 is big bang at the end of the month.
Thanks

Re: it moves.......just....
I had the same problem on my brothers mk2 golf 16v, we found two problems. One was there was low compression, due to worn cam chain and the second problem was the metering head. But with the metering head it showed no problems with the fuel pressure, plus we had a very hard job to get the fuel mixture right. So new cam chain and swapped to an 8v metering head and the beast came alive, the power was really good in it.
I hope this helps

Thanks lenny, I might swap back to my original metering head as my current one is of unknown history.
I had an arse of a job getting the mixture right also.
Is there a way to measure where the screw is supposed to be or whether you are right on it?
Compression on each cylinder was 175-185 so I think that is ok lol.

Re: it moves.......just....
by all accounts the mixture needs to be set using a gas analyzer in the exhaust. the ignition timing seems to be correct by the flywheel.
I think its just a case of tinkering....

Re: it moves.......just....
To set these up properly, you really need fuel pressure gauges to check the WUR is working properly, and then a gas analyser or wideband sniffer to check the mixture.
Having said that, the first thing I'd do with those symptoms is have a good check round for air leaks. Make sure you haven't forgotten the vac pipe connection on the back of the inlet manifold (I've done that one before).

Well that might explain a lot! co tester read 6.3

got it down to spec and a little adjustment on the idle speed and I am now at 1k rpm and the car is pulling half a number 11 on the road
(need an LSD)
