Shall I get these shocks? Pros and cons? Poly bump stops?

Tight budget. Was hoping not to replace the shocks but after almost 160,000 miles it seems foolish to do the bushes and springs but leave the shocks. I am however on a tight budget and am already looking at £200 for bushes, springs and labour costs. I'm doing poly rear http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... in the past i've just shortened the rubber ones to suit the shorter shock. i'd imagine that the poly bump stops may may the suspension bottoming out much more severe

I was looking at these make shocks for the A6 and found the English translation quite amusing 'BAD GRIP - PERFORMANCE GERMANY'

Yeah, I was laughing about that! So anyway, these are cheaper than the boge ones from GSF (which I'm told are cheap) once you buy a full set. Is that because they're crap? TUV approved suggests not, as does German made, as does the fact that they're gas, not oil (isn't that better?). So shall I get them? I might have to wait another month til next payday to afford the fitting labour if I buy them rather than using old ones.

They are cheap, but cheap. Boge ones from gsf are good quality and reasonable price. Euro also do bilsteins for same price as boges, better still

So i should get a set of bilsteins from euro car parts then? How much are we talking roughly? Once i pay the postage on the ones in the link, they're close to £100 so if the bilsteins are around that sort of money, i'll go with them rather than risk some i've no idea of the quality of, even if they are TUV approved!

I have just put Boge gas shocks on the Scala, they are fine. Boge are made by Sachs, which as we all know make good quality products.
Kieran, don't forget you get a discount from GSF for being a paid up member.

You can get a discount anyway! I reckon i could get one at euro too. I have heard more good reviews of bilstein than i have of boge but it depends on the price. Can i have a second opinion on which are better? And a rough price? Cheers.

Nothing wrong with Boge over standard. I have always thought of Bilstein as more of a sporty ride, but I guess they must do standard ride comfort too.

So is it fair to say the quality's the same but the bilstein ones are stiffer than the boge? And either option is an improvement on standard? Still could do with knowing which brand is cheaper.

If you're on a budget I'd just get the cheapies off ebay. They come with a 2 year warranty don't they?

If they're plus VAT I'll be looking at over £150 for those won't i? What's the accessory kit? Any ideas? Starting to look like the ebay job's the one due to financial restrictions. I'm sure they'll last. Only worry is a horrible ride quality. I'm buying blind so to speak. Thanks for the help and links and stuff. I'm almost decided now.
