Rear belts in a mk2; anyone fitted them?
Hi, I'm looking for help and advice from anyone who has fitted full rear inertia belts into an '86-ish Mk2. Mine is an '86 GT. In the brochures the GTX has them fitted, whereas mine only has inertia lap-belts. I wondered therefore if there is a mounting point as standard on the C-pillar on these early bodyshells?

If it helps, which it probably won't, but I have the fixings in the rear of my '89GT for them, I have the non-inertia belts (3 point) in mine and will be going inertia reel when the car is overhauled.

It may help mate thanks. I do know they were in the earlier GTX, but weren't required by law until '87; mines an '86.Just don't want to rip the headliner out either, it's to good to risk trashing.Funky Diver wrote:If it helps, which it probably won't, but I have the fixings in the rear of my '89GT for them, I have the non-inertia belts (3 point) in mine and will be going inertia reel when the car is overhauled.

All shells, even the Mk1s had the C-pillar connection point for 3-point belts. You can feel the connection point under the headliner (basically a big hole with a screw-thread in there) by passing your hand over the C-pillar.

That could be just the news I was hoping for. Just couldn't understand why the GTX shell would be different to mine.Tempest wrote:All shells, even the Mk1s had the C-pillar connection point for 3-point belts. as the rocco only has 2 rear seats, lap belts were acceptable after 1987.andy69 wrote:It may help mate thanks. You CAN get them aftermarket too... full set of ONE belt from Securon are about £20(ish) including VAT, but then you need to add the profit margin where you shop (so £20 a side)
The bit you will possibly need is Part Number 11, but these are no longer available. You may have to be creative or get some off a scrapper :)

So reel is underside of parcel shelf, and part 11 is trim allowing belt to pass through behind the speaker grille?Funky Diver wrote:You CAN get them aftermarket too... full set of belts from Securon are about £20(ish) including VAT, but then you need to add the profit margin where you shop.
