Carb mount

Hi,
I've got a GT, had it for about 6 months now. Basically, I had to remount the carb when I bought it because someone had stuck it on with silicon etc...after it had been put on properly, the mount split after a few weeks, I thought because one of the bolts was knackered and too tight. However, the new mount that I put on has now split as well after about 6 weeks. When I move the carb I can hear air coming out of the gaps anyway.

Was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why this keeps happening?

Standard airbox Ross? If it is, make sure the front of the airbox is held up with the appropriate bracket (A shaped, attaches to the rocker cover studs).

Yeah, it is the standard air box. It's been modified tho, the previous owner fitted a metal ring on the bottom where it attaches to the carb, about an inch deep, so it would fit over the top of the bolt that attaches the air box to the carb. So now the air box is too high up to be attached to the bracket. It's a Weber conversion by the way...

i reckon that will be it. Mine was hanging freely for a while, after a month or so it chewed the carb gasket like yours has. You can make up a really simple bracket out of a piece of sheet metal with two holes drilled in it and two nuts/bolts/washers, dead easy bud. I've just had a look and can't find a photo of mine to show you. An inch sounds incredibly thick for an adaptor plate - does the airbox touch the bonnet when it's closed? Might be pushing the airbox down and therefore stretching the carb gasket. Have a look at the heat/sound insulating foam on the underside of the bonnet. If its squashed where the airbox would sit if you shut it, then it may be causing your problem.

It's not touching the bonnet, there's no impression in the foam anyway. I'll try making a new bracket then, thanks a lot for your help.
