Well should be a simple prob to sort but its causing me problems and its doing my head in as i cant use my car as a result of it.
Basically i've got a 1992 MK2 scirocco and the light switch has failed on it. The lights come on but when your driving and get some vibration going through the dash the lights then flick off which has almost caused me to crash a few times now! If you then prod around with the switch then they do flick back on most the time. So obviously need a new switch. The problem being i cant seem to get hold of a new switch for the car. I have bought two switchs now, both advertised as a MK2 Scirocco switch but when i have gone to fit them they dont fit! The reason they dont fit is because the spade terminals on the back of the switch are a different pattern to the one thats on the car. The one thats on the car plugs in through a big red plastic electrical adaptor. Now the VW specialist i bought one of the switchs off said that he knows which one mine is but he said they are rare and hard to get hold of and he couldnt get hold of any. Does anyone know how i can get this sorted out?
Thanks
Scott
Can someone please help me tracking down a light switch

Re: Can someone please help me tracking down a light switch
Hi Buddy.
I'd try checking the plug on the back of the switch checking that all the connections are clean and good. As for the switch i'd turn it off and on about 40-50 times to give it a clean. If it works great. If not get a new one. I'd say the bigget majority of switch problems are dirt and poor contacts.

Is there a part number on the switch? Easier to get the right replacment part if you can find one on the switch.

I know what hes talking about, mine was one of the wrong ones he bought. Someone else wanted to but a switch from me but mine had an extra spade on it. So there appears to be three different types!
If it helps ive got old bits of my loom from the 16v. I can chop the light switch conncector back a foot and post you that if you want? I'll only charge for the postage. That way you can chop the old one off and solder/crimp this one in.
Personally not my first choice but if you cant fine the plug and have 100 wrong fitting switches........?

Dude is there any chance you can stick a photo up of the back of the switch..Reason being is that i have a spare light switch that has way to may spades on the back to fit mine.
If you can do that OR let me know how many spades are you switch i might have what you need..

Re: Can someone please help me tracking down a light switch
there were two types of switches fitted to the mk2 - changeover was about '89 if my memory (and i think the 82-90 edition of haynes manual advises in modifications section at back) is still working.
