Springs from GSF

Post by jim91 »

One of the front springs has broken on the scala so thought best to replace both as the other one could go soon. Bought a pair from GSF (some swedish make begins with L). Their website listed from springs all same from 83> but when I rang the guy said they were listed for 1.6, I couldn't see there being any difference. I bought them anyway.

Called in with eamon on way home to compare with a set he had and they seems to be a coil too long...........the set he had looked the same and he'd to cut a coil out cos his sat like a monster truck with them in it.

Anyone shed any light or had similar problem?

I like to keep the car right and wanted new springs and don't really relish the idea of attacking them with an angle grinder to get it to sit right. :crying:

Different models had different spring rates and lengths from the factory, the only way to identify them would have been blobs of coloured paint on them. Most aftermarket places will only do one size fits all and vw will want to know the paint code which will long since have rusted off.

vagcat page for front suspension on 89 scirocco.

http://www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/vw/COR/1989/13/52/183133/

you may have to register to access all the info and then take/check with a dealer against your number plate.

This might be a good time to create a sticky for the spring colours on each model. Maybe some of you low mileage original condition owners can have a look at the spring paint blobs front and back and add to the sticky before they all rust off.
My 1991 GT2 had 2 Yellow blobs on Front and 2 Blue on Rear (IIRC). (Now on Eibachs!)
