Lowered suspension
The previous owner lowered my scirocco by 40mm but has left original springs on. It is quite hard and the springs creak to be honest when u push the car down. Can anyone recommend appropriate springs please. it currently does not rub wheel arches on full lock and id like to keep it that way

Re: Lowered suspension
recently changed my shocks and springs (40mm) to the waitec ultra gt 25mm set up. Check out my project thread for pics. Much happier with the front, but am hoping the rear comes down a little further..

Re: Lowered suspension
How has it been lowered if it is on the original springs? I thought you could only lower suspension by putting in shorter springs.

Re: Lowered suspension
I was wondering that as well, unless the previous owner chopped the original springs down! More likely they left the original dampers on I'd have thought.
I'd suggest Eibach springs and even have a set that I'm looking to part with if interested, but really would advise a change of dampers to go with them like shortened konis. When I fitted them to my own car years ago and before i knew better I put them on with new but standard length Boge turbogas dampers which were cheap. About 3 months later I'd killed the fronts due to bottoming them out and destroying the seals, think i got through 3 sets before i decided that shortened konis were the way forward and never had problems after.
Sorry for the ramble but thought it could be useful.

Re: Lowered suspension
As above.
It's the length of the spring that dictates the ride height unless it has adjustable spring seats (coil-overs). I'd only use shortened springs with shorter piston dampers. Basically buy them as a kit if possible.

Re: Lowered suspension
heres some old shots of my scala on its original wheels and the weitec gt spring/damper kit which lowered the car by approx 35-40mm by way of comparison.

was always a nice compromise but didnt suit the d90 rims fitted since these shots were taken.
the old shortended springs on standard shocks argument rages on across other forums where the 'look' is more important than the driving experience - i personally would never combine the two just to get a lower car.
that car of yours still looks lovely - and is an ex VAG Press car based on the Milton Keynes rego' plate i believe.

Re: Lowered suspension
The creaking will be the suspension bushes. It's not necessarily a problem. Next time you have the wheels off have a look at the condition of the wishbone and ARB bushes. If they're rubber they may well be cracked and soft, in which case get new ones :)

its a Milton Keynes rego 'nv' and 'likely' to have been on the press or corporate fleet originally.
