Long day yesterday, up early at 6am and off to Lenny125's.
Followed by a trip to The Phirm for a fuel pressure check and CO2 emissions test
Fuel Pressure as high as 8 bar at one point, brought down to 7 bar
CO2 emissions set to 2.48
Also changed over WUR back to the original as the new one was found to have a lack of vacuum. Return fuel line checked and ok.
Tim advised that the fuel pressure & cold start issues were probably down to a poor metering head.
So back up the road to Lennys and a replacement 16v metering head was fit.
Also the following was done:
Power Steering Belt Replaced
Alternator Belt tightened
Alternator replaced
Injector ports cleaned
Oil Switch replaced
Vacuum Hoses Replaced
Anti-freeze flushed and replaced
Followed by a trip to The Phirm for a fuel pressure check and CO2 emissions test

Big Update.
So once again a massive thanks to Glenn (aka Lenny125) for all his hard work on Wildrider and putting up with staying with me for 3 days!!
In that time we managed to get the following done:
Both Outer CV Gaiters replaced
Drivers Side Steering Rack Gaiter replaced
New Oil Sump Pan, Gasket and Plug
New Oil Cooler and Gasket (old cooler had a hole in it)
New Rocker Cover gasket
New Inlet Manifold Gasket
New Oil Filler Cap
Fresh Magnetec 15w/40
New Alternator Belt
Cleaned up Throttle Body, All Air Pipes, ISV, Inlet Manifold, Radiator Cowling
New Waitec 25mm Shocks and Springs all round
New Red/Black Leather Gearstick Gaiter
Good engine bay clean out

Rohan, Where did you get the drivers side steering rack gaiter? I have bought 2 and neither were big enough diameter at the big end (you know what I mean) to go over the fixed bit of the rack properly where it is clamped on. It is pretty tight and awkward to get it fitted over the rack with the engine in place but I ended up taking a stanley knife to it and cutting a split in it to get it to go on but it still doen't look right.

Oops, just read back to the first page and seen you have power steering!! So my GT2 will be different!

Hello mate
As I fitted the rack gaiter for Rohan I had no problems to get it on, the only thing is though that he has power steering so it will be different to the steering rack without power steering. If I do rember rightly the non power steering ones are a bit of a nightmare to get on, so what I did was put the gaiter in some boiling soapy water for about 10 mins. After that I put lots of washing up liquid on the rack where there gaiter slides on and then it should just slip on. Leave the gaiter to cool down and then put a cable tie round it or a clip if it came with one.

Car is looking good Rohan, wish mine looked that clean and tidy at this time of year!
@ goforit1 Having played the steering rack gator game recently on my GT2 I found ETKA has the wrong boots for left and right listed. If you want a nearside boot use the offside part number and vice versa. This was from VW themselves.

Hi Tim, I also wondered if Etka was right. Bought 1 gator off AVS spares and 1 from GSF but similar sizes. I will go to the dealers next time. Cheers for the advice.

Another trip down to "The Lenny" yesterday to get a few bits and bobs sorted:
1) Alternator belt had come loose due to the arm coming loose - both tightened and no more squealing!
2) Rear suspension adjusted and lowered 10mm doesnt look so jacked up now!
3) Track Rod ends replaced (both ends) FAI NOS Rover Maestro ones used
4) Compression tested all 4 running about 180psi
5) Fuel Pressure Checked about 5.5 bar
6) Fuel control pressure about 60psi
7) CO2 emissions checked running at 6%, reduced the fuel mixture, now running at 2.2%
8) Adjusted the steering to stop the veering to the left so much

Many thanks to Lenny125 (Glenn) for popping down today to fit the replacement genuine VAG Bosch fuel pump.
Finally the rocco can now make it up the road to the MOT!

There's something about me and MOT's in this car..
Last year the week before its first MOT with me the Clutch Cable snapped. But that was to be the least of my worries as the car went on to fail on no less than 6 points plus 7 advisories.
Thanks to Lenny125 we got most of it sorted and had another ticket for the year great stuff.
Then this year the week before the MOT the fuel pump died and the rocco was grounded at work..
Once again thanks to Lenny125 for sorting it out for me over the weekend.
So I took the rocco into the MOT yesterday not too worried (other than lights) I was pretty sure it would all be ok.
Low and behold I had the same testers as last year! Who remembered the car and me all too well .. had a few jokes about it too
Well it wasnt as bad as last year, but still failed. :(
All silly little things that I had changed over the last year.
Failures:
- Front nearside main lamp too low and too far to the left
- Nearside side repeater wrong colour
- Offside side repeater wrong colour
- Rear nearside lamp too dark
- Rear offside lamp too dark
- Rear offside fog lamp too dark
- Rear nearside seat wont secure when upright
Advisories:
- Nearside full beam inoperable
- Slight dampness around the fuel tank
- Both centre chassis at bulkhead damaged
- Both front suspension lower arms inner rear bushes fitmet
However on the positive side, they were all small niggly things and luckily I have lots of spares to play with.
So as suggested by the tester, I swapped out my tail lights and side repeaters.
I slammed the rear bench into place
I fixed the non-functioning full beam (corroded contacts) and I adjusted the nearside lamp as best I could.
Went back for the re-test today and other than a little further adjustment needed on the nearside main bulb (performed by me) it passed with flying colours!
Now to get the BMW ready for its MOT!!

Pain in the aris innit.. my MOT place (over the road from me) just does the simple stuff whilst he's on with it and I bung him a tenner. Like light adjustment.
And what the heck is "Dampness around the fuel tank"? Was he not happy that you hadn't dried it all off before getting to him?

To be fair to them they did try to adjust the lamp but had no clue what they were doing (they were adjusting the horizontal rather than the vertical).
The dampness was there last year too! Im with you, no idea what to do about it .. well except keep having it listed as an advisory
