Dipstick

Post by ianaudia4 »

Took the Scala out for a blast when I got home from work.
Thought I would check under bonnet when I had finished and noticed my dipstick and dipstick guide had disapeared!
In 25 years of driving I had never lost a dipstick, in fact I have never heard of anyone who has????

Any ideas?

haha good sean good..
Ian do a compression check, very odd that the dipstick has blown out, could be a sign of crank case compression...

I think I will be buying from the dealer, I agree the relies would be interesting!!!

Jake, crank compression? sounds painfully expensive!

Cheap as sir, get a compression tester gauge for about 20 quid. Screw in to spark plug hole one by one turn engine over. gives you the pressure in each cyclinder and you can then tell if some thing isnt right, head gasket letting by, piston slap, ring wear etc.
Full working details are on the back of the tool, and also gives you an idea of what if any the problem could be. Also worth have a hayes with you to check the normal running compession.

Jake, I meant that maybe if the compression is knackered it would be expensive. I had a 20v Audi Coupe once, it had low compression on one cylinder, so I took the head off and changed all the valves and associated little bits, cost me an arm and a leg!
I will get a new dipstick and guide next week and see how it goes, I will tie it to something and see how it goes. The car is running like a dream since having the fueling put right so I am hoping that I didn't put the dipstick in right when I checked the oil then drove 270 miles!
