Recently replaced both gear selector rods, the short one and the longer one for a five speed manual. Now I find it very difficult to engage 1st and 2nd gear. It feels like it's not aligned correctly, or something has moved over time to cause this to happen. All the other linkages have been replaced and oiled which its connected to.
Anyone have any ideas how to adjust so I can have 1st and 2nd gear back . I'm a novice who's learning...........any advice or pics how to do it would be appreciated.

Stupid question, but are you sure you put the rods on the correct way around, as the longer one is shaped.
Don't ask me....it was like that when i got here !

Any other suggestions?

Ahhh, back from hols.
Just checked and the both rods are correct way round. Just wondering if there are any adjustments I can make.
Really want to use the car over this period to give a run, but do't want to crunch the gears in 1st and 2nd.
* Clutch cable is replaced and has been adjusted and is working fine.
