Solid/Hydraulic head changeover year(s)

Post by filmidget »

Anybody know for CERTAIN what the year was for changeover between the head types please? For Sciroccos, and other VAG models if different?

I am thinking 1986 for Roccos...

Thankyouverymuch.

yes - it was the 86 model year cars that would have appeared in the dealers from about September/October 1985 at earliest.

Happy to be corrected - pretty sure that the hydraulic tappet cars only have a cover in place above the tappets when you remove the oil cap??

Haynes should clarify this too based on chassis numbers as will VAGCAT/etka too - if someone can check before I can tonight.

Double check against colour codes too perhaps if you have a possible 'changoever' period car via Musicman/cybertects site - see links in FAQ

According to Workshop Bulletin No. 1 of 10.85:

'Starting with Model Year 1986 the 1.8 litre engines with code DX and KT will have hydraulic valve clearance equalization.'
