Carb innit?

Take the airbox off and squirt a load of carb cleaner down. There could be some manky gummed oil stopping the butterfly from closing properly.

Check where the throttle cabel attaches onto the pedal, the 'hook' on the end of the cable sits into a rubber grommet type thing, on mine this had disintegrated meaning the throttle was stuck on slightly all the time as there was always a bit of tension on the cable, but if I lifted the pedal up with my toe the idle settled to normal. Eventually the hooked worked its way out completely and I was left with no throttle on Bradford ring road. Nice.
