New Car, New Problems
Firstly hello!
Just bought myself a mk2 scala recently, love it to bits already but have found a few niggling issues.
Firstly, its carbed (with the pierburg, which i now realise is not most peoples favourite toy) and its giving me a few issues. So question 1:
How do i remove the Pull Down unit to check if its ok? Have tried checking it with the car running but the tolerances seem... sketchy. Are they easy to get hold of to replace? The waxstat has been replaced, and the auto-choke unit seems fine.
Question 2: When i bought the car 2nd crunches when selecting gear, and this problem has now moved occasionally into 3rd also. Does this sound likely to be the gear linkages or something related to those? Or something more sinister?
Question 3: Is it easy to re-install an aerial, as for some reason the aerial wasn't in place when i picked the ar up, but has been supplied.
Apologies for all the questions, i'm new to these cars!! I do have a classic mini so im more than happy to get stuck in and fix it, just need a bit of guidance :)

Cool, sounds like that should solve the gear problem if nothing else. Hopefully just a case of worn bushes etc. *crosses fingers*

Replacing the aeriel is an easty task, you just have to make sure the base is the narrow type as the top of the wing isn't very wide.e you to get better access.
To make it easy for yourself jack the car up and remove the front left hand wheel and this will enable you to take the inner wing liner out. Then just put the aeriel in and fed the cable into the car through the bulkhead (use a grommet) and put into the radio.

Cool thanks, should solve the aerial problem. Just need to find the time to sort this stuff out now!Still stuck on the pierburg though,
pull down unit anyone? :( Have tried a few things but failed. Am i correct in assuming the pull down unit is the one with vacuum hoses (A and B) labeled going into it? Figure i'll make sure im looking at the right bit to start with!

Just bin the Pierburg and get a DMTL Weber off ebay for about £45.
As for the crunching gears, re-bush the linkages then get the gearbox oil changed asap. Should see it smooth again, if not, it might be that the clutch has worn and the cable needs adjusting up a bit which is easy to do. It's a case of winding the nut up at the gearbox end of the cable.

Clutch has been adjusted up, so hoping its just the linkages. Shall pick some up when i have the cash soon.
As for the carb, im sticking with the pierburg for a couple of reasons. The first and main being im a rather poor student(money and time wise), and dont want the extra expense and hassle of fitting and tuning a new carb.
The second is that everyone either says pierburgs are awesome when running well, OR bin it. im more fo a fan of the constructive argument and i like a challenge! Thanks anyway though :)

Ok, so having investigated more, i have an incling that it may be the auto choke unit. Unfortunately i cannot test this until the weekend, when i'll also check the Pull down unit.
Does anyone know ehere i can get hold of an auto choke unit? I cant seem to find anywhere that sells them. :(

Based in Essex currently (at uni), not entirely sure it shte auto choke now. Might be the timing? As i also get a lot of juddery drving, and the car will not idle smoothyl regardless of what i try to do. Have managed to get the idle down now though. Is it possible that the timing could affect the car that way? Or the fueling mix?
