Brake conversion for Scirocco GTII

Afternoon all,
I'm a newbie as of today, the reason being that I would appreciate any help whatsoever in upgrading the brakes on my MKII Scirocco GTII.
It's FSH from new and only 91k on the clock. I recently fitted a Brand new Weber carb and it has made a real difference. So much so that the brakes are worse than ever (not that they were that good to begin with). What I would like to do is upgrade the front discs to something much bigger/better but with the minimum of fuss. I would also like to upgrade the rears from drum brakes to disc. Can anyone advise on a similar solution here also? Is it simply a case of getting hold of the rear axle/stubs/etc from a MKII GTI 16v? I really would appreciate any good advice so that I can get started buying the parts and doing whats required to get the Scirocco to stop when I apply the brakes.

It might be worth changing the brake fluid first, it often gets over looked, then check the adjusters and shoes on the rear drums it can make a big differnce to the braking. There might be a whole section on this on FAQ but I find the brakes work well if set up properly. If you are comparing the brakes to a modern car then they do feel crap, you soon get used to pressing the pedal a little harder. Or if like me, when I first set off in a modern mundane car I nearly throw the passenger throught the windscreen the first time I use the brakes.

I did exactly that when I first drove my MR2. Except replace "The Passenger" with "Myself".
