Coilovers on 16's

Post by daveyg »

Hi

New wheels being fitted in the next few weeks and i think the car will be sat slightly too high for my liking on the current weitec lowering kit. So i am in the market for a set of coilies that (a) arent too expensive - sub £300 would be good that dont provide too harsher a ride. Anyone running a set up they would recommend??

Thanks All

For a little extra i recommend the AP ones available from Venom for £365 inc vat.
Have them on the 16v and the GTL - check project threads.
Height adjustable, fixed damping but still a good enough ride quality in London environment and great on open road.

ALSO google/ check Weitec in the UK - they have had a promo recently re their height adjust only £500 kits being available for under £400.

I go on about them all the time but Weitec are superb but they're the only company I've ever used and I'm running 16's

:good: Yep another for Weitecs here.
Mine give the same ride as the bilstein kit I had previously, but are set 35mm ish lower and I also have the front braced top and bottom = Winner

EDIT - mines a mk1 - and I'm on 15's!!!

Yep, front is braced top and bottom and im using standard weitecs at the mo, sounds like they may be the way to go...Wheel adaptors and tyres first tho!

Weitec are superb but, like most big names, other companies just use the same bits and slap their name on and charge less. As it goes I think the APs Sean was mumbling about are a case in point.

I fitted -25mm weitecs with the 16" rims I am using, I could fit my fist through the gap between the arch and tyre so have decided to sell and purchased a set of Jom coilovers from Venom. I have now got the look just right, check my build thread in the next couple of days for pics.

I chose Jom after reading alot of reviews and threads from other websites. I have been advised they are good and excellent value for money.
Like anyone I would have chose a £5-600 set up but its not feasable.

Rusty

Im just a bit concerned as the ET on the wheels is 23 and although i dont know a lot about offsets, i have been informed this is rather a large offset and with the adaptors fitted i may be hitting on the bodykit...I guess arch rolling is a possibility but def something i would prefer to avoid (the rear wheels are 16x8)

not sure what my et is on my 16" as they are not VW, I have had to space the fronts 16mm each side and the rears 25mm each side to get the wheels on and they are still tucked!

GTXTRA, the stance on that Mk2 with D90s is absolutely spot on! Well played ;)
