"spoiler" or "no spoiler" that is the question

Post by whatalotafun »

seriously thinking about removing mine,

are they needed?
are they hard to remove?
and
do you like the look of the car without it?

Im not a keen one for without it.
Other option is to try and source an early type spoiler that dosent sit up as high

It might give you more rear view, but unfortunately
where the glass curves,it gives a distorted rear vision
- Think "Hall of mirrors" at the funfair. :swoon:

T's a real marmite mod. Personally I'm not a massive but it can work. The wing does little more than act as weight as far as I can tell. If you're going to do it then weld the holes, smooth the rear, bin the wiper and fit a pop. Apart from the welding it' an easy job. Word of warning though, I very nearly knocked myself out when I was playing round. Had removed thE wing to feed the wires, popped the remote boot pop and was nearly chinned when the boot flew up.

Proof that it can work, im still unsure tho in general... i think the spoiler is a key defining feature on the mk2's.... anyone tried fabricating a mk1 style boot for the mk2?!?! hmmmm

Without the spoiler I would imagine the car would handle a little better at higher speeds due to the lack of downforce at the rear caused by the spolier (ever noticed the steering go reeallly light at around 90mph ish)...I think..Would it not?

no real downforce at road speeds - these were more about providing stability at highway speed and, combined with spoiler being slightly raised over curved glass, to keep rear window clear of rain on the move without the need for a rear wiper.
