Mk2 exhaust manifold carb vs. injection

Does anyone know if the “toilet bowl” exhaust manifold is the same across DX and EX engines? (I have a GTX with a possibly cracked manifold and I'm thinking of buying a known good second hand one).

My GTX has had an exhaust leak from around the manifold or downpipe for several years – the symptoms are a smell of car fumes when stationary and a loud exhaust (never enough to fail the MOT though!)

Check where the leak is before changing anything.
Get 50cm of garden hose and you will be able to pin point the leak, start the car from cold and stick one end of the garden hose in your ear and move the other end around the exhaust manifold and down pipe, you may need to try this from underneath the car as well from above (get an axel stand under the car with you) you will hear a leak if there is one.

I used to find the toilet bowl manifold used to leak around the joint, I found the mesh gasket better than the solid gasket on the joint to the down pipe.

Stainless 4,2,1 manifold is the best upgrade for sound and performance as the toilet bowl type manifold and down pipe is a rubbish design and if you are keeping the car for a few years we’ll worth considering…..

Thanks for the advice! I've got a mechanic's stethoscope which I've never had much luck with, might try the hosepipe method too though. I've heard bad things about some of the 4, 2, 1 manifolds, is there one you would recommend?

manifolds are essentialy the same its as essextom says the hot air collector sheild is bolted on differently so has different studs but for the purpose of fixing your leak it will work
