Took the Corrado to Cars in the Park in Lichfield today, weather held up (mostly) and spotted a very tidy Mk1 Rocco, see pics (link further below). Was the only Corrado, but love the variety of makes and models at this event.

Oops, MOT expired last year according to GOV, hopefully just been retested (or trailered in). Perfect MOT history up to that point from 2013 though. I have a strong feeling I saw and admired that car on the Concours at Stanford Hall 2019.

Great selection of cars and looks like a good turn out.
Well spotted GT_II, Sorn and no MOT… I guess they are waiting to register the car as historic so no MOT or cost for road tax but you still need to fill in the paper work or perhaps thought it would happen without doing anything?

Well spotted mark1gls, it doesn't need an MOT! And no paperwork is required other than a V112 self-declaration of MOT exemption, in order for the car to be registered as historic for road tax purposes. The process of registering the car as historic with DVLA takes weeks after the paperwork is processed at the Post Office, during which time the car is legally "taxed", even if still showing as SORN on the public record. So I'm guessing some time next month, the GOV website will be updated to show this 1981 Scirocco was "taxed" in early September.

I hate being pedantic on forums! Here goes
Apparently this car was first registered 31 Jan 81 This being the case it's got no chance of claiming Tax and MOT exemption until next year.
Here's my experience. My 81 storm was 40 in February, i was all set to register for tax exemption. However the car must be registered on the 1st of January No date after!! Then you can only put the papers in to claim tax/MOT exemption in the April
So this 40 year tax MOT exemption is a load of B***s (Unless your car is registered on 1st Jan) Its for most people when the car is 41 years old!

...unless they can prove it was manufactured prior to 1981 - either with a VW birth certificate (pricey) or with a dating letter from VW UK's vehicle certification team (free of charge). But it looks as though they haven't done this as year of manufacture is still showing as 1981 (DVLA's default for cars registered during 1981).
Bizarrly, for MOT exemption, you don't need papers, and the age criterion is a lot simpler - the vehicle simply has to be built or first registered more than 40 years ago. Why does the Government make rules so complicated and inconsistent? Maybe because road tax policy is the responsibility of HM Treasury and MOT policy the responsibility of DfT.

As i said the majority of cars must be 41 years old to qualify
Re: Cars in the Park, lichfield 12/9/2021
It could be MOT exempt now, if it was first registered in Ireland prior to uk, 81 registration
