To be or not to be, rear spoiler
After looking at the pictures of this mk2 for sale on flea bay; is it wise to remove the rear hatch spoiler ??
I thought it was designed to keep the car stable at higher speeds. Or am I just barking up the wrong tree?
Not going to remove mine but just thought I’d share my observations….

Re: To be or not to be, rear spoiler
Although clearly an aesthetic feature, I am sure VW put in a lot of effort in the wind tunnel to refine the shape of the spoiler to smooth airflow over the rear and bring down the drag coefficient. However, I doubt it's something that would be noticeable in everyday driving. Much less than putting a bag of compost in the boot for example.

Re: To be or not to be, rear spoiler
Ahhh, after looking at sciroccos for 30 odd years, removing the spoiler only makes it look like something is missing. It’s been made to look incomplete somehow, each to their own I suppose. Cheers for your feedback .
kind regards,
Dave.

Re: To be or not to be, rear spoiler
It's a different look for sure. For me, the angular pressings on the tailgate frame and C-pillar spoil the smooth de-spoilered look and reinforce the impression that something is missing.

For me, miles better with the rear spoiler, front fog lights, Pierburg carb and correct size wheels. But much of that is down to personal preference.

Re: To be or not to be, rear spoiler
It's a striking look showing off the attractive / unusual curve of the glass however I think I'd stick with a stock spoiler unless you're looking for something more radical all round perhaps

Re: To be or not to be, rear spoiler
from memory wasnt there some info on it preventing the car becoming unstable at speed?
something like the aerodynamics causing the car to lift at speed and loose traction so spoilers fitted to disturb the air flow and prevent the lift.
early honda civic type Rs had the same issue i recall
