Window crank removal on scala

Post by Philcraig »

I’m trying to fix a broken door latch and need to remove the window crank but it won’t release. I can see that there seems to be a release for a screwdriver but if I put a screwdriver in there and pull, it won’t release and feels like it’s going to snap.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

The 2 pictures on this ebay listing should help - looks like the cover should prise off at either parallel edge of the splined end:

Thanks, it must just be on really tight then. I’m trying to prise it off the spine but it feels like the plastic is going to give way!

It’s still Jammed on. Has anyone attempted this themselves? All the guides make it sound like a 2 second job but I’m having real trouble.

It just feels like the trim on the handle is going to give way due to the amount of force I’m having to use to lever it off of the spline.

This is how I think it should work in theory:

(1) Lever the plastic cover off the metal interior on one side of the attached end:

(2) Once one side of the cover his lifted clear ease the cover at that end sideways and remove the attachment screw:

(3) Once the screw is out, pull/lever/wiggle the crank off the splined shaft to release it from the winder mechanism

Might be worth carefully softening it up with a hairdryer first?🤞

I managed to do it, didn’t break either which is a bonus.

Turns out I didn’t even need to take the door card off to fix the problem, ah well!

Thanks for all your help everyone
