mk2 1.6 1995 gearbox issue

hi hope someone can help me here i have a mk2 1985 1.6gt the car will only select third and forth i have fitted all new bushes on selector rods but still no change no 1st second fifth or reverse

Are you 100% sure the linkage is set up right.... you only need to be 1 or 2 splines off the gear stick rod connection and you can lose gears.....

Can you select the gears by operating the gearbox directly from above in the engine bay?

Have you seen this guide?
It gives you some measurements of the gear set up to check.....

It’s worth changing the gearbox oil if you don’t know how old it is as it’s very often overlooked and for the cost of 2l gearbox oil it’s worth changing..
