Hi all, I appreciate that this has been discussed many a time but I have a late K reg 1992 mk2 Rocco 1.8 8v GT2 with a Weber carb conversion. It’s nippy but I’d like to increase the BHP where I can. I’m running a Jetex exhaust, piper cross filter but I would like to drop a fast road cam/GTI cam in to give a bit more power. I appreciate that it will only be a slight improvement but I’m not planning on dragging it up Santa pod quarter mile. I have locally a decent guy who can fit and set this up but any thoughts on the best cam to buy? Used mk1 GTI cam or new Kent/piper/newman cam?

More power - cam shaft
Re: More power - cam shaft
Hi,
I can't really comment on the others as I haven't used any of them, but I have a Kent GS2H cam and it gives a noticeable improvement above about 4k. It hasn't been set up properly yet so I would hope it will be even better once it's been set up on a rolling road. It is quite a lot of money for relatively small gains but unless you're going to do an engine conversion it's as good as you can expect.

Take a look at “Cat cams” website, I have a pair in my 16v and would recommend them, good quality and performance, recommended by a few engine builders
