Hi,
I own a mk1 GLi 1980, and I got it MOTD yesterday. Was looking forward to driving it to work this morning but it wouldn't start.
I couldn't hear the fuel pump so checked fuse box and sure enough one of the white blocks that plugs into the rear of fuse box has burnt out, see pics.
I've been advised that this is a common problem and that there is a way around it, but seeing as though I'm as thick as two short planks I want to know can you still buy those white block connectors that connect the wiring to the fuse box? I can't seem to find any.
Thanks in advance
Mal.

No point just fitting a new plug or the same thing will happen again, you need to find out why it’s burning out.
What’s the fuel tank like inside and any blocked fuel lines or fuel filters, blocked fuel pump intake causing the fuel pump to work over time and draw to much current?
Water damage to the fuse box.
Poor earth connection....

Yep that was a safety recall, many didn't receive it though.
The fix was a relay relocation kit called 171 971 761 B (now hard to find) to bypass the white block/plug, but you can make your own, I'm sure you're not really as thick as 2 short planks, it's not too difficult and all the information is at your fingertips these days
The reason is, on the early fuse panel the fuel pump is fed from a small pin terminal, it can't handle the current and heats up as you've seen

Thanks for all your replies, really helpful.
Think I'll replace block connector anyway as looks awful but yeah, you're right need to find the route cause.
That link was great, just need to hunt down an adapter of some sort.
Cheers everyone, I'll let you know how i get on.

Hi,
Anyone recommend any auto electrician who can sort the above problem out? It's above my skillset and I want it sorting for the spring ideally.
Cheers Mal.
