So I was driving along the M4 the other day and I went to overtake. The car kept accelerating and the pedal stayed down, I had to keep hooking it back up with my foot to reach idle for the rest of the journey. When I pulled over I checked the whole thing. It wasn't the pedal bushing, that was changed a month ago.
I assumed that one of the rubber bits on the cable linkage had gone, where the adjuster bit is. There was a clip holding the sheath on the ribbing so when you pressed the pedal there was resistance, but nothing on the other side holding the sheath so the sheath and cable would slide back through the rubber mounting thing together, hence no pedal travel.
I fitted a new cable today but the problem remains. What am I missing and how can I get hold of it quickly! I can't work it out from the parts diagrams which bit has fallen off.

Re: Accelerator cable not returning
On my Webber carb there’s a big spring which which pulls the cable back to idle.
You can see the spring in this thread...

Re: Accelerator cable not returning
Just went to look and you're right, the spring had snapped off the linkage
Re: Accelerator cable not returning
I've measured the broken spring and found a new one, it's on order. It's easy to miss obvious things sometimes! Thanks

Re: Accelerator cable not returning
Glad it's a simple fix.
I nearly lost my spring as the hole where it lives had started to wear though, I had to move the spring onto the bolt which holds the cable.
