Mk1 Storm Value

Post by steveb »

I have owned a MK1 storm 1979 Build reg 01 1980 since 2003 The previous owner would very much like to buy it back, he's the only person i would sell it to. the thing is it needs a lot of welding work, it's not been on the road since i have owned it. so question is what does the forum think is a fair guide price for it ?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

I would suggest that that the price would really depend on how bad the rust is. One sold on eBay recently for about £3.7k last month but I didn't view this one myself.

The same car sold for £2.7k a month earlier so there's a lot to be said for good photos.

If the previous owner really wants it, I would pitch it between £3k-£5k depending on rust and what you paid for it. I suspect it would have deteriorated during your ownership so you may want to factor that in. The cost or restoring these cars properly is considerable so you might not want to price it too far out of reach.

GLWS,
Silver.

What's a mint low miler worth - £7k +
What's one with an MOT and in good condition - £5/6
What's one with an MOT and in OK condition - £4/5
What's one with an MOT and poor condition - £3/4
No MOT and OK condition - ??
For me it would depends on the colour - personally I would pay for more for brown or blue.

You don't mention the condition of the paint/interior/mileage so it's difficult to guess at a price.

"Needs a lot of welding work..."

Probably £2000 - £3000 judging by the last few restoration project Storms I've seen on eBay.

It was silver green, had a poor coat of yellow applied. Drivers seat need a repair everything else is ok. Mileage is 107,000. Wings tailgate are good, doors are ok, you can see where a repair panel has been let in on the bottom half. Sills, inner sills, rear arches, front wing mounts need doing. It does have the smaller Storm Badge

I suspect the yellow would put the speculators off a bit. Even though the Storms in original paint colour that go for £2k-3k still need a full respray after restoration repairs. You might be looking closer to £1500-£2000. But if you’re only interested in selling to one person, you’ll just need to work it out between yourselves. Otherwise I’d say a no reserve eBay auction would probably serve you well, as long as you take good pictures and give an honest description.

Why have you not don’t much to it in the last 13 years?
It’s a long time for a car to be sitting about unused, does the engine turn over by hand?
If you have not started it for a long time DO NOT attempt to start it.

Yes life and other commitments do get in the way, maybe it is best to let the Mk1 go and get sorted out and back on the road where it should be...
The UR sounds very interesting, tell me more.... and with some pictures.. :-D
