Just discovered that my reverse lights aren't working when getting ready for the MoT. I've ruled out the fuse and bulbs so, according to my internet research, the next thing to check is the reverse light switch. Apparently it's located on the gearbox.
Please does anyone have any pictures of where it is and what it looks like? I haven't had any dealings with my gearbox before, so I don't know what I'm looking for, but it sounds easy-ish to change the switch.
It's a Mk2 1.8
Just relieved it isn't an MoT fail - passed first time!
Cheers guys.

Re: Reverse lights switch
What year is your car as ther is 2 types of switch.
Easy to change simple switch on later cars.
Not sure this will fit picture just as a guide.

Slightly tricker to fit switch on early cars.

Both switches are ontop of the gearbox behind and to the left of the clutch cable and should have an electrical cable going to it.

Re: Reverse lights switch
Thanks Mark. It's 1992 so hopefully the easier switch. I'll dig out my Haynes manual and see if
I can work out what to do.

Re: Reverse lights switch
I had a quick look at mine, if the see the clutch cable, follow the lump on the gearbox and on the left hand side you should see 2 wires onto a switch if you unplug the 2 wires and join them together, turn the ignition on and you should have reverseing lights (I think that’s how it works) if they work then possibly the switch is faulty, you unscrew the switch and you will see a plunger on the end, connect the wires, turn ignition on again and press the plunger a few times to see if the switch just needs freeing up a little as that may work? If not you need a new switch.
You may have an electrical connection like this as well?

Or this type of connection so best to have a look and check before ordering anything.

Nice one Mark. If it stops raining today I'll take a look. Thanks for investigating :)

Re: Reverse lights switch
Hi Rosie,
Yeah it’s very simple, right on top of the box to the right hand side. Had mine out earlier for the gearbox change
No pictures though I’m afraid
