Indicators

Post by Rocco2 »

Hey guys.

I took off the side indicators which are in the wings. Now need to do some magic for the relay, the indicators flashing seems to be extra happy :-D
One option would be to leave the side indicator bulb to flash in the wing but there must be a more reasonable solution.
Perhaps anyone has some good ideas.

Thanks.

Early mk2 (up to '85) didn't have the front wing side repeaters. Presumably if you set up your circuit the same as that, you'd be fine.

Might the relay swap do the trick?

The flasher unit needs to be matched to the number of indicators in the circuit, if you remove the side repeaters it's exactly the same as if the bulbs had blown, so you need the flasher from a non-repeater car.

Sounds logical.
Does anyone know the product code for that flasher relay?

Generic flasher relays can be bought, some are electronic and can automatically accommodate 4 or 6 bulbs (2 or 3 per side).

Can you run the car without side indicators? Im sure it’s a MOT fail in the UK but not sure if different in Estonia?

Thanks for the code.

I doupt that the MOT guy knows the specifics of an old volkswagen :) and if he actually starts pissing about them l, then I’ll just put them back for him.

I haven’t managed to go to the MOT yet, just finishing up the engine swap.

Yeah your right mark it is a failure in the UK... but they do just seem to be getting more and more carried away making things worse over here. The rules are changing again next month!

Worth a try and see what happens.

I think it was 1986 when uk cars had to have side indicators?

Found some info here.
