Got a little bit of a strange one from what I can work out. My headlights, the drivers side is fine however the passenger side seems to turn the dip beam on when the sidelight should come on and stay on when you switch the headlights on.
I'm guessing something has been wired wrong as it's defiantly Been messed around with from looking at it.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the loom? Would be great if ya do
in comparison to how the original wiring is then yes, a massive difference,
my opinion , not enough to actually see comfortably where yo are going on a unlit road at night.
i chose the hid route but the kit i got had beam correctors and were brilliant by far.
many members may advise you to try different routes as their not supposed to be on our style cars, but i have never been pulled over, and drove my blue storm loads at night.

The main problem with the VW standard set up is the full 12v current runs from the battery, through the fuse box to the switch, through the switch and then onto the lights, it's a long way to travel on old wiring and common to have a switch burn out or worse a burn/smoke from the wires behind the dash.
If you replay the headlights you reduce the load running through the switch etc as the power is now coming straight from the battery to the headlights.
There is a dim dip resistor fitted to the headlights which dims your main headlight bulbs (H4) when you turn the side lights on (little 4w bulbs), it's positioned underneath the front slam panel, size of a pack of Polos with 2 yellow wires going to it, you need to remove this if relay headlights, just unplug it and tape up the wires. This may also be why you have different things happening on the lights if some one has already relayed the headlights?
Can you post up a picture of what you have on the car?
Hmm yeah I see what you mean, I'll post a picture on Saturday hopefully as annoyingly I didn't take one. I do recall that's half the cables aren't actually connected on the drivers side but that side works and the passenger side has some connectors which aren't plugged in but I have no idea where they are from lol
To be honest I haven't a clue, I tried it last thing the other day when I was having an argument with the sunroof lol I'll take a look and see what I can work out and get back to you
Right I took a look tonight and with the aid of a multi meter actually managed to work out what wires are what so we are all sorted!! Wohoo
I do have one question which are the 2 cables in the image below. They come through the headlight loom on the drivers side but have been cut. There is nothing obvious that they go to, they are not to do with the light that I can work out and also aren't the fog lights as I've found them.
The red and white has a permanent voltage of 2 or 6 volts (it's only one of them but I can't remember which one it was)
Is that wire white with just 1 red stripe and the other wire white with 1 blue stripe?
I'll have a look at my Mk1 golf tonight as I'm currently using my Mk1 Scirocco and that seems to have a slightly different set up as i have a white and 2 red stripe wire going to the headlight socket?
