Bumper respray! Who's had this done?

Post by christhemann »

I've just taken my bumpers off the Scala (Helios blue)to get them painted.
They're already painted but not in the best shape! (thanks to a pheasant).

They bodyshop said they can't reproduce the texture on the bumpers (original plastic texture)!
For those who've had theirs resprayed, how did you keep the texture? Or didn't you?

I suppose the only way would be to get black bumpers, and paint them rather than respraying re-painted ones....
But that would be a waste of mine really.
How bad do they look resprayed and totally smooth?

:help:

Looks really good, car looks great too!

So did you have front and back resprayed?
Do you mind me asking how much it cost you?

I've just been quoted, and they keep upping the price!

Cheers fella!

Just had the front done back was ok at the time..

I had the following done at that time:

Bonnet filled, treated and resprayed (rust sorted, stone chips removed etc).
Bumper insert swapped for new bumper and cover sanded down and resprayed.
Drivers side wing sanded down repaired treated and resprayed.
Damage / rust behind bumper treated.

Here are some more pics

If I remember correctly it cost me £400 all in - started off being £350 and was going to go up to £450 but overall paid £400 which I was happy to pay as it was a good job!

go to a better bodyshop. you can easily reproduce the original textured finish on bumpers. this is how come you can have a plastic bumper that has been scuffed, cracked or whatever repaired. basically they spray on a layer of plastic. this would be the final finish on an unpainted bumper, or would then be painted body colour if required. i'll see if i can find the a website that descibes the process better

Had my badly scuffed at each corner Scala bumpers redone back in '06.
here's the nearest i have to close ups. still element of texture but very easy to clean and no problem with polish etc getting stuck in pattern now.

these had gouges in an came out pretty well, front bumper still has a twist from previous owners parking by touch tactics and will be swapped soon.

was part of a wider door/1 panel/rear hatch/grille spoiler/bodykit gouges tidy up at the Phirmfx - cost me £450 then.

Hi,

The front bumper on my white scala was in very poor nick paint wise. I stripped it with nitrmors and sprayed it with plastic primer and a spray can from Halfords and I am happy with it and the texture is still showing though. An easy cheap job, bumper off primed and sprayed and all done in a weekend - did get some over-spray on my Jag unfortunately but thats another story.
