Correct bolts to use - help !

Hi all -hope someone can help

You can see my car with an original wheel and a after market alloy.

When I bought it had the five spoke DEZENT allows which I wanted to replace with original steel wheels to take the car back to original.

Wheels refurbed and fitted but as soon as I move the car three feet there was a "grinding noise" so stopped and the problem was the wheel bolts were too long and thus binding on the rear drum brakes but not the fronts as these are discs with calipers. Hence fronts are now steels and rears alloys as the small garage I went to doesn't sell wheel bolts.

I've looked on ebay to try and find a set of bolts to fit the steels but there are hundreds and many listed that fit but are 23.5mm long which is the same as the ones I had on the alloys which seem to bind the rear brakes - see photo and I can't quite make out the numbers on the bolt head

So does anybody know what the correct bolts are for the steels? there seem to be radiused and cone headed nuts - I presume cone is correct as these seem to seat ok on the fronts.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated to save me buying the wrong bolts.

Those are for aftermarket wheels, I don't know the correct term but the standard vw ones are a dome shape where the ones you've pictured are conical.

I can't paste a link but google standard vw wheel bolts and the first 2 links show you the correct ones.

"Googled" it cheers - yes they are radius heads but the thread is 27mm long - same as the ones I have which were binding the rear brake drums - maybe with the cone nuts I have they sit that bit deeper into the wheel?

I ran some steel wheels using my original vw wheel bolts from the vw alloys wheels fitted to the car and they was ok on the rear.

It might be worth taking the drums off to check nothing is damaged inside.
Fit the new bolts and spin the wheel by hand so make sure nothing catches just be sure they are ok.

Thanks Mark - I've come to the conclusion that the original steel wheels need the radius seating nuts as opposed to the conical seating my aftermarket alloys has so the thread does more into the rear drum. It wasn't a problem on the fronts as they are discs. I only travelled three or four feet and heard the scraping noise and immediately stopped so I sure no damage done.

Its your brakes, I would not risk it for the sake of removing a dust cap, split pin and undoing 1 nut.... Better safe than sorry or hitting the back of another car?
